As a child I was dog crazy and my poor
parents were blessed with a series of rescues at my instigation.
I did not become involved in purebred dogs until the mid 1980s,
after I finished university. I started with Dobermans Pinschers
and have exhibited in conformation and obedience. Until 2002,
I bred Dobermans under the Haefen prefix.
At the turn of this century, I began to look for a sighthound
breed. At the 2002 Saluki Specialty, I met Hope Waters and Carole
Adley and the beautiful MSBIS Ch. Burydown Hilerica Ulahni --
the search was over. Lahni’s son by FC Shelby Budah Beccan,
Ch. Burydown WinterHaefen, continues to delight my eye and fill
my heart.
I am located in Victoria, British Columbia. The salukis live with
me in the house, run in the garden, and enjoy walks in public
areas. They are definitely part of the family. We do attend shows
but my focus has expanded to include judging so that I exhibit
infrequently. I am currently on permit for 14 breeds in the Working
Group.
