The Canapus kennel is situated in the northern most province of the Netherlands, being Frisia with her grand lakes, specific subculture, language and history in several sports but also dog-breeds.
The name Canapus is derived from Canopus. The dawning of the Canopus constellation upon the night-sky heralds the imminent arrival of the rain season(oct.nov.). Rain being the life-source for all desert-dwellers. It is therefore that Canopus is greated with exhilaration by the bedoeins.

Our salukis live inside our home and have constant access to several areas.
These areas include their own habitat in the library and adjacent kitchen, which for several reasons is their favourite place. Outside the salukis have the run of our own terrain, which is specifically designed for our salukis so they can play, run, hunt and enjoy themselves amongst each other safely, from time to time along with the puppies and guests.
They are of course part of our family ... or is it the other way around?

We do attend shows and coursing-races, but our heart lies at long and casual walks in the surrounding fields as well as the large stretches of natural terrains within riding distance of our home.

We breed a litter each two years, thus keeping the pack sound and healthy and creating our own family with a recognisable strain.
